Digital X-Rays

Digital radiographs, commonly known as x-rays, are a vital diagnostic & assessment tool for dentists. We offer modern digital x-rays at our practice, both for your convenience & for efficiency of treatment.

Digital X-Rays at MyDentist

At MyDentist, we utilize advanced digital radiography for enhanced diagnostics and patient care. Moving away from traditional film-based methods, our digital x-ray technology provides a safer and more efficient experience. Digital x-rays significantly reduce radiation exposure by up to 90% compared to conventional film x-rays, which were already considered low-risk. This modern approach replaces the use of silver-oxide film and chemical developers with a small electronic sensor, ensuring a more environmentally friendly process.

Understanding Digital X-Rays

Dental x-rays, or radiographs, are a crucial part of preventive dental care. These electromagnetic waves, invisible to the naked eye, pass through soft tissues but are absorbed by hard tissues like teeth and bone. This allows our dentists to identify potential oral health issues that may not be visible during a regular examination. Digital x-rays are essential for detecting cavities, evaluating tooth roots and surrounding bone health, assessing periodontal (gum) disease, analyzing tooth and jaw alignment, and monitoring dental development in younger patients.

Types of Digital Dental X-Rays

While various types of dental x-rays exist, including periapical and full-mouth x-rays, bite-wing x-rays are among the most common. These x-rays capture images of multiple teeth, including their roots, in a single shot. During the procedure, a dental professional will position a sensor in your mouth and ask you to bite down while an x-ray emitter is directed at your face. This emitter sends x-rays through your tissues to the sensor. The process is painless, and you will not feel any heat or light from the emitter.

The Benefits of Digital X-Ray Technology

One of the key advantages of digital x-rays is the immediate availability of images. The x-ray image is instantly displayed on a monitor in the treatment room, allowing our dentists to assess your oral health and identify potential issues right away. This real-time feedback enables us to discuss your oral health condition with you, pointing out any areas of concern and ensuring you have a clear understanding of your dental health. Furthermore, digital files are easily shared with other dental professionals involved in your care, facilitating seamless collaboration and continuity of treatment.

At MyDentist‘s Middlefield and Pharmacy locations, we’re committed to using this advanced technology to provide the highest standard of dental care while ensuring your comfort and safety.
