Bonding

Dental bonding is one of the simplest & most versatile restorative treatments that we offer. If you have a tooth that is slightly chipped, cracked or decayed, we can use a resin to cover or rebuild the damaged areas.

Dental Bonding Services

Dental bonding is a versatile cosmetic and restorative dental treatment that addresses various concerns, including filling gaps, reshaping teeth, and correcting tooth discoloration. In some instances, it serves as an alternative to amalgam fillings or protects exposed tooth roots. The bonding process utilizes a pliable, tooth-colored composite resin. This material is carefully sculpted onto the tooth and then hardened using a specialized light. At MyDentist, we precisely match the resin to your natural tooth enamel, ensuring a seamless and natural-looking result. Our experienced dental team can assess your needs and determine if dental bonding is ideal for enhancing your smile. Contact us today to schedule a consultation.

Understanding Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a relatively straightforward procedure compared to other restorative treatments. Typically, it can be completed in a single visit, often without anesthesia. The process is generally comparable in duration to a routine dental cleaning. The dentist will begin by lightly roughening the tooth surface to ensure optimal adhesion of the bonding agent. A liquid is then applied to facilitate the resin’s attachment. The composite resin is then meticulously shaped to achieve both functional and aesthetic goals. Once the desired shape is achieved, the material is hardened using an ultraviolet light and polished for a smooth finish. Finally, the dentist will verify your bite to ensure comfort and make any necessary adjustments.

Limitations of Dental Bonding

While dental bonding is an excellent option for minor repairs and cosmetic enhancements, it does have certain limitations. Composite resin is not as durable as materials used in veneers or crowns. For significantly damaged teeth or for a more long-lasting solution, veneers or crowns may be more suitable. Additionally, veneers and crowns are more resistant to staining. While bonding can address small gaps, it is not a substitute for orthodontic treatment. Misaligned teeth and bite issues typically require orthodontic solutions such as braces or other appliances. It’s important to note that bonded teeth do not respond well to teeth whitening. Therefore, whitening after bonding may result in a color mismatch. It is advisable to undergo teeth whitening prior to bonding so that we can select a resin shade that matches your brighter smile.

Caring For Bonded Teeth

Proper care is essential for maintaining the longevity and appearance of bonded teeth. The resin is susceptible to chipping, cracking, and staining if not properly maintained. As bonding material is less durable than natural enamel and cannot be whitened, it is important to avoid staining foods and beverages, such as coffee, for at least 24-48 hours after the procedure. Habits like nail-biting and ice-chewing should also be avoided. With good oral hygiene, your bonding can last between three and ten years before requiring a touch-up.
